
Marika’s practice is focused on resolving complex business disputes, with a particular emphasis on the energy and electricity sectors. She advises oil and gas companies, power producers, construction and real estate development firms, insurers, service providers, and boards of directors on a wide range of commercial litigation matters.
Her experience includes disputes involving breach of contract, fiduciary duty, negligence, fraud, and other commercial claims. She regularly acts in litigation and arbitration involving asset purchase agreements, gas transportation and handling agreements, joint operating agreements, CO&Os, power purchase agreements, joint venture arrangements, and construction contracts.
Marika has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and in numerous private arbitrations. She brings deep experience in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and negotiation, and often works with clients to develop tailored dispute resolution strategies that align with their business objectives.
In addition to representing clients in active disputes, Marika provides proactive risk management advice where litigation is anticipated. She advises on internal processes and investigations following major incidents, including force majeure events.
