Nicole Skuggedal Quoted in Canadian HR Reporter Article on New Paid Sick Leave Legislation
Lawson Lundell lawyer Nicole Skuggedal was quoted in an article by the Canadian HR Reporter on the passage of Bill C-3, amending the Canada Labour Code to provide 10 days of paid sick leave to private sector workers in the federally regulated sector. The new law will take effect on Dec. 1, 2022.
The article, '10 days' paid sick leave: What employers need to know,' examines the impact this new legislation will have on different businesses. “For smaller workplaces, this is fairly considerable,” Nicole says. “COVID has taught us we don't want our employees coming to work sick and spreading things to their colleagues. But we also have to remember the cost of that is now being borne by the businesses and not the government.”
