Sheila MacPherson, in her capacity as President of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, spoke at both the Federal Court and Supreme Court of Canada welcoming ceremonies in Ottawa. On February 2, 2018 the Federal Court held a welcoming ceremony for Justice Sébastien Grammond who is a professor in the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, civil law section. On February 5, 2018, the Supreme Court of Canada held a welcoming ceremony for former Quebec Jurist, Chief Justice Richard Wagner, after the retirement of Beverley McLachlin on Friday.
