Three Lawson Lundell Litigators Recognized in Benchmark Litigation's 40 & Under Hot List
Lawson Lundell litigators Laura Bevan, Lauren Cook and Jonathan Selnes have earned a listing in the 2022 edition of Benchmark Litigation's 40 & Under Hot List.
Laura Bevan has been recognized with this award for the fourth time, Lauren Cook has been recognized for the fifth time, and it is Jonathan Selnes' second year on the list. They are considered among Canada's most accomplished litigators at the age of 40 or younger.
Laura Bevan
Laura is Head of the Firm's Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group in Vancouver. Her practice includes all areas of civil and commercial litigation. She has appeared as both trial and appellate counsel, including before all levels of court in British Columbia, the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as before various arbitration and administrative tribunals.
Laura provides practical and strategic advice to help clients find solutions to a broad range of business disputes. Laura advises clients in the gaming industry, the banking and securities industries and in the area of pensions and benefits. She has particular experience acting in litigation involving occupiers' liability claims, insurance matters, franchise disputes, complex securities actions, civil fraud claims, shareholder's disputes and oppression remedies and professional negligence claims. Laura is also litigation counsel to pension and benefit trusts.
Lauren Cook
Lauren's practice includes regulatory law, administrative law and commercial litigation, with a particular focus on regulatory compliance and environmental law issues. She has appeared as counsel in all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, the Ontario Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
In her regulatory practice, Lauren has experience advising clients in the oil and gas, forestry, mining, real estate development, aquaculture, power generation and clean energy industries on regulatory and environmental compliance, environmental auditing and due diligence. She also advises clients on matters related to the remediation of contaminated sites, including cost recovery actions for contaminated sites. Lauren has successfully defended clients in regulatory prosecutions and has advised clients under investigation for regulatory and environmental offences.
Jonathan Selnes
Jonathan's practice includes all areas of civil and commercial litigation. In his commercial litigation practice, Jonathan has experience in a broad range of cases involving insurance matters, shareholder’s disputes and oppression remedies, professional negligence claims, complex commercial disputes, class actions, real estate disputes, and complex construction and engineering disputes, and oil and gas disputes.
In his estate litigation practice, Jonathan has experience with challenges to the validity of powers of attorney, claims arising in the administration of estates and trusts, claims against executors, trustees, and attorneys for breach of trust, proceedings to appoint, remove, or replace trustees, and disputes over the passing of accounts by executors, trustees, and attorneys.
