In this session, Michael Wolpert will present on the pension reform in Alberta set to reach a new milestone with the long anticipated release of the regulations to the Employment Pension Plans Act, and the coming into force of Bill 10. The pending changes represent a new era of pension regulation in Alberta, while at the same time providing considerable opportunity for pension plan sponsors. As can be expected with regulatory overhaul, these opportunities will be accompanied by new challenges for plan sponsors and administrators. This session will review the key anticipated changes to the Act and will provide a sense of some of the important details that will need to be considered when the regulations are released.

In this session, Justin Young discussed the key elements of early stage financing transactions, including alternative transaction types, typical deal terms, syndication and process and timing, as well as current trends for early stage financing in Vancouver.

Paul Negenman will be speaking at the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen (CAPL) November General Meeting on November 20, 2013. His topic will be "Death of the Spacing Unit in the WSB".

Cliff Proudfoot is speaking on "Fisheries Issues in Environmental Assessment" at the 7th Edition Environmental Law in BC Conference being held in Vancouver, BC on November 18-19, 2013.

Sarah Nelligan is speaking at the Amici Curiae Lectures: Foreclosures and Self-Represented Litigants Part 2 on "Preparing Applications and Orders for Foreclosures and Self-Represented Litigants"  on November 12, 2013 at the Law Courts Center.

Jeff Christian presented a lecture to a University of Victoria law school class (Law 343 – Energy Law) on October 31. The presentation was on the “regulatory compact”, regarding the benefits and burdens of being a public utility, and the possibility of the compact continuing to be a viable mechanism to achieve social justice objectives.
